Hello all......just wondering if u guys are running your tankstick rigs with keyboards or without? The reason i ask is cos i had the same exiting issues ( The dreaded blackscreen o death ) when i first started out with my custom control panel ( not tankstick but GPWIZ - same sort of thing as an ipac). Had my control panel running through USB with a keyboard plugged in to PS2 as well, and had to muck around with multiple fixes (tried joytokey for a while....which worked sorta ok, and then went with the key combo fix, which also worked fine for me). Then i happened to modify my control panel, finished reconfiguring my new buttons in my emus & MA and decided i didnt need the keyboard to be hooked up unless i was doing some maintenance .......and whaddaya know? No more exiting probs & no longer needed the button combo! Dont ask me why.....I have theories, but they are beyond my skills to test! Anyhow, just wondering if this might help some of the teeming masses out there who seem to be growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of a definitive fix or explanation for this blatantly obvious and long running bug.
I was also thinking that there must be a keyboard encoder in the tankstick (which i must admit I am completely unfamiliar with) somewhere, and surely it would be a relatively simple thing to replace or swap? I have scratch built a couple of cabinets now (On the cheap!) and have been using generic keyboard encoders already set up to plug straight to microswitches (purchased off ebay for only $30 AUD!....much cheaper than ipac or similar & does exactly the same job!) and they are very easy to set up, work great, and have yet to give me the exiting issue.... touch wood, but then i don't have keyboards plugged in as well any more either. My point being that why not get one of these cheap harnesses, use it to replace the existing encoder in the Tankstick and see if you still have the exiting issue? At the very least it might help to narrow down where the issue is or give you a control panel that works! I can sort of understand the reluctance to pull apart something as expensive as a Tankstick ...... ridiculously expensive for what you get in my opinion, but lets face it, its not much use if it doesnt work the way it should. I understand this is not an ideal solution for those people who went and bought tanksticks to use specifically with MA on the grounds that they are advertised on the MA homepage as being compatible (I would be furious!) but it might be better than nothing......which is what seems to be happening so far eh? I think its a great shame that people have gotten to the point with this where they are turning from MA to other front ends. I have tried several others myself in the past and MA is by far the best one that i have struck to date......but then i havent suffered the continuous, frustration and ongoing saga of the exiting issue like some have!
