Yes, contacting him directly will not help much as he is swamped with other e-mails already. Feel free to PM me (or post it here on the "BBS" aka forums) and I will contact him directly and post the results.

As far as installation, I had the same question and here is how he responded:

"To update, you can copy all .lst/.ini/.cfg files from the older preferences folder to the newer preferences folder."

So you would install the new beta to a different directory and then copy over the above.

I have my registration code and will try it when I get home tonight. I'm running XP service pack 2.

OK, here's the deal. I just reimaged the PC with a brand new load of Windows XP Professional SP2. Other than the needed hardware drivers, the only software I loaded was the new beta version of MA. I get the same results as before - registration info takes the first time and after that it tells me I have 30 days left to register the software. So it definitely is not Service Pack 3 for XP doing it.

To rule out that it was a driver that might be causing it, I loaded MA on a fresh PC with completely different hardware and it did the same thing as well. Keeps asking for registration after the first time.

Also, MA will definitely expire after 30 days. I moved the date up a month and two days and MA reported my trial expired. And yes, I am using the administrator account. All rights seem to be there, so not sure why the code isn't properly saving.

We appreciate the extra work to go above and beyond darkmagician. Re-formatting is tedious work. Thanks for verifying the problem on a clean install.

I can also confirm that it is not service pack 3 related. I am running the following config and it is occuring on my PC as well.

Tiny XP Pro w/service pack 2 (scaled down version on Win XP pro without all the drivers)
AMD X2 4200+
2GB RAM
160GB HDD

I get the same error that everyone else is reporting. The registration works the first time, but once you exit and re-enter, it asks you to register again.

I also tried this on another PC with Windows Home Edition (service pack 2) installed with the same results.

Looks like it's a registration encryption issue. I will contact Mameseer to let him know what we have found.

Thanks everyone!

Hey, anything I can do to help out. I love troubleshooting. Unfortunately, when it comes to coding, that's where it ends. I hate  programming and was never good at it. I barely passed it in college. I'm more a hardware and network guy 8) .

If I come across anything else, I'll post here. And if there's anything you would like me to try, just ask.

I eagerly await to see what Mameseer finds.

Thanks for your help in this matter DeLuSioNaL29! We appreciate it. :D

Great news everyone... Mameseer is currently working on an update fixing the registration issue. In the meantime, you can either use it for the next 30 days "as is" or (like I did), revert to an older version that used to work.

Check that...

Reverting to prior versions does not help. It still gets the 30 day trial message box.

Looks like we'll have to wait until it gets fixed.

And the results are in: SUCCESS!!!! :D I was able to enter the code and it now keeps. I quit MA and went back in and it is working A-O-K!! :D

Thanks Mameseer and Delusional for all your help. It is greatly appreciated for your quick efforts at resolving this. Now if you could just get other software developers to follow your work ethics. Just one more reason why I will always recommend to others that this is the only frontend one will ever really need for their cabinets.

Now I ask, is there anything I can give back to my loving retrogaming community here at the forum or is there some way that a person can help out with Maximus Arcade? Spreading the word? R&D? Anything? :?:

Thanks much.

Make mine Pac-Man!!

Re: New registration code not saving...

Postby hawkxp » Wed Mar 25, 2009 8:12 pm

hi

just read through this topic and iv had a similar problem, difference is though MA didn't take my reg info first time nor the second, im using and have been using MA 2.03 for the past year or maybe more and have been really pleased with it, how ever as of last week i decided to upgrade my cab with new emus and drivers and of course an updated version of MA while i had the cab out, so i downloaded the current version of MA and installed it, i run MA inputted my reg info and it stated my reg code was wrong, so i typed it again checking every letter, still no luck after 3 or so attempts, so in the end i reinstalled version 2.03 and the reg info worked first time.

as something changed since 2.03 in regards to the reg info, i have contacted Mameseer about this, and iam waiting on a response from him, i do realize the fella is busy.

anyway heres my specs of the machine MA runs on just incase u fellas know something.

P.4\3.4GHZ\HT
1GB Corsair Twin XMS
GeForce 6800 256MB
SB Live 5.1
Windows XP SP1
all current drivers and software installed as of today.

thanks in advance for any help.

Hi hawkxp

The registration codes where shortened with the release of beta 6? i think. If you contacted mameseer with your problem he will get back to you with an updated reg code soon.

Ps. make sure you include your old reg code when you email him .

HawkXP is right on the money about the new registration key. The registration encryption has been updated beginning with version 2.10b6 and later: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1215

You'll need to e-mail Mameseer and he will send you the new registration code. I will also notify him that you need this as well to expedite the process. :)
