What emulators are best with MA?

Postby Nidz » Tue Sep 05, 2006 6:48 pm

Hi there people. This is my first post and I hope I haven't gone over something already covered but it there a list of recomended emulators for each system? I've tried a few for each but I find some work better with this frontend than others. Can somebody out there list the most recomended emulators for as many systems as they can then I can get some idea of what others are using. So far I've setup mame and visual pinball. I'm having a real hard time setting up Future Pinball and I haven't even started on the Nintendo, Sega and Atari systems.

Could MA's future builds include control setups for many of the popular emulators? Most use CFG files. Having 1 place to setup a universal set of controls that will then carry on to all the other emulators would be much easier. Something with a GUI interface.. Just an idea. Any comments will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey Nidz, welcome to the club!

I guess you've seen the list of supported emulators, for example here:
http://maximusarcade.com/max.htm

If you're running a cab (without any visible keyboard, with a mame-control panel), I can recommend the following emus:
* KEGA Fusion (for Sega stuff)
* Magic Engine (for the PCEngine)
* VisualBoyAdvance
* ZSNES

I am having trouble to control N64 games / PSX games without using (original) gamepads, so maybe you should try
the ones above first?

Sounds good but I honestly don't think it's doable! Every emu coder has preferences and handles stuff (like launch in full screen, launch in a specific resolution) differently. Mameseer already does a GREAT job by trying to override relevant settings when launching an emu.

I also think that most emus are easier to setup than the beasty "Future Pinball", so don't give up! :-) (but don't try to setup ZINC next, it's horrible to configure :twisted: )

Hope that helps!

Hey thanks for your comments. Yeah There's a fair bit of messing around to get all the emulator systems to run. I've been trying one with the Genesis but can't get it to run full screen. I suppose there's full screen load tags I can put in for these to get them to run the way I want. It's a matter of learning each emulator.

But I hope the next update comes out soon so I can get the pinball all configured nicely.

I'm having a few issues with some emulators. Wondering if anyone has any better alternatives.

I can't get Jagulator the Jaguar emu to run properly. Wondering if there's a better one out there?

Also with the GBA and GBC, I need an emulator that will stretch and do full screen. Even if it's resized as long as it shows full screen and not in a window. Anyone used anything better than GBA Advance?

Thanks for any replies.

Check out "VisualBoy Advance"! Great emu!

For fullscreen, enter
'-F "%file" '
in the commandline options
